The Long Run takes place outside of our normal continuity of episodes, and features table discussion of an entire work or long selection of a series. In this episode of The Long Run we talk about Akira, by Katsuhiro Otomo. Set in post-World War III Neo-Tokyo, the series begins with battling motorcycle street gangs, but quickly expands to including psychic powers, secret military projects, revolutionary terrorists, and ultimately the potential destruction of the world.
It is both a seminal work of the cyberpunk genre and was instrumental in exposing the United States to anime/manga.
On the next episode of The Long Run we will be reading Elephantmen, written by Richard Starkings with art by Moritat.
Our hosts on this episode are Andrew Chard, Tobiah Panshin, Kayleigh Fleeman, and Cade Reynolds.
