Welcome to our new Halloween bonus series, Tales from the Gutter. For the month of October we will be focusing each week on a different genre of horror/spooky comic.

This week we take a look at comics featuring monsters and the things that hunt them. To kick off this discussion, we read Afterlife with Archie by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and art by Francesco Francavilla, October Faction by Steve Niles and Damien Worm, and iZombie by Chris Roberson with art by Mike Allred with colors by Laura Allred.

Our hosts for this episode are Kayleigh Fleeman, Kirbotron 2000, Kit DeForge and Cade Reynolds.

This week on View from the Gutters our topic work is Sovereign, Vol. 1, by Chris Roberson and Paul Maybury. Set in a familiar yet different world from our own, Sovereign follows several groups of characters as the time of convergence approaches, when demons inhabit the bodies of the dead and the world is prophesied to undergo a great change.

Often compared (favorably) to Game of Thrones, this series is a fascinating story that blends fantasy with history and will surely tickle the fancy of any fans of the fantasy genre.

This week we are releasing a survey to help us get a better sense of our audience. Please take a few minutes to fill out our Listener Survey, and receive a small thank you from View from the Gutters.

In our recommendation section, our hosts nominated Freak Angels; John Constantine, Hellblazer, Vol. 1: Original Sins; Strong Female Protagonist, Book 1; and Kinski for discussion on the next episode, and our selected title is Strong Female Protagonist. For next episode we will be reading issues 1-4, which are collected in Book 1. You can read them for free on the comic’s website.

Our hosts for this episode are Andrew Chard, Tobiah Panshin, Kayleigh Fleeman, and Cade Reynolds.
