This week on View from the Gutters our topic work is Mystery Society, by Steve Niles and Fiona Staples. Published in 2010 by IDW, it is a tongue-in-cheek story about a group of paranormal investigators led by Nick Mystery and his wife Anastasia. The comic follows their adventures fighting the US government and searching for the stolen skull of Edgar Allen Poe.

In our recommendation section, our hosts nominated God Hates Astronauts, Namesake, Fearless Defenders, and Bedlam for discussion on the next episode, and our selected title is God Hates Astronauts.

Our hosts for this episode are Andrew Chard, Joe Preti, Kayleigh Fleeman, and Tobiah Panshin

saga

This week on View from the Gutters our topic work is Saga, Vol. 1-3, by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples. An ongoing series, Saga is set in a galaxy consumed by a proxy war between the largest planet in the galaxy and its own moon. It is the story of Marko and Alana, two soldiers from opposite sides of that war who fall in love and run away together, pursued by agents of both sides.

Saga is by no means a war story, however. It’s a romance, and a story about the many ways that war affects our lives. It’s a beautifully illustrated comic with incredible and weird character designs, amazing set pieces, and luscious colors. There also may be a cat who will quickly become your favorite character.

In our recommendation section, our hosts nominated Federal Bureau of Physics, Vol. 1; Annihilation, Vol. 1-3; Spider-Man 2099, Vol. 1; and Judge Dredd: Case Files, Vol. 7 for discussion on the next episode, and our selected title is Annihiliation, Vol. 1-3.

Our hosts for this episode were Andrew Chard, Joe Preti, Tobiah Panshin, and Cade Reynolds.
