Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser was originally published in the early 90s as part of Marvel’s Epic imprint. Drawn by Mike Mignola (of Hellboy fame) and adapted by Howard Chaykin from the classic sword and sorcery stories by Fritz Leiber, these stories heavily influenced an entire generation of fantasy, from novels of Terry Pratchett to Dungeons and Dragons, and are masterfully brought to life by Mignola’s artwork.

In our recommendation section our hosts nominated Hammer of the Gods: Mortal Enemy, The Strange Talent of Luther Strode, 1602, Battlefields, and The Chronicles of Conan, Vol. 1 for discussion on the next episode, and our selected title is 1602.

Our hosts for this episode were Andrew Chard, Joe Preti, Matt McGinnis, Tobiah Panshin, and Cade Reynolds.

This week on View from the Gutters our topic work is Bite Club, by Howard Chaykin, David Tischman and David Hahn. Published by Vertigo in 2005, Bite Club is a mashup of gangster drama and trashy vampire bullshit. It follows the infamous del Toro crime family—the most notorious clan of vampires on the East Coast—following the murder of the family patriarch, Eduardo del Toro.

Although brought together for the funeral, the del Toros are soon at each others’ throats as they compete to see who will lead the family, and seek to discover who is responsible for Eduardo’s murder.

In our recommendation section our hosts nominated Gunnerkrigg Court, Vol. 1; Batman & Dracula: Red Rain; Batwoman: Elegy; and Jim Henson’s Tale of Sand for discussion on the next episode, and our selected title is Jim Henson’s Tale of Sand.

Our hosts for this episode were Andrew Chard, Joe Preti, Tobiah Panshin, and Cade Reynolds.
