We just had so much interest in this comic from our hosts we decided to put out a bonus episode with commentary from Joe, Eric, and Kirby, who weren’t able to be on the regular Episode 67. Once again our topic work is All-Star Superman, written by Grant Morrison with art by Frank Quitely and Jamie Grant.

Our hosts for this episode were Andrew Chard, Joe Preti, Eric Manix, and Kirby Green.

This week on View from the Gutters our topic work is All-Star Superman, written by Grant Morrison with art by Frank Quitely and Jamie Grant. Published over three years, All-Star Superman is the second title in DC’s short-lived All-Star line, that sought to present iconic visions of their banner characters outside of the constraints of continuity. It is Morrison’s distillation of all that is Superman.

After an encounter near the surface of the sun, Superman receives an overdose of solar radiation which super-charges his power, making him more powerful than he’s ever been before, while at the same time slowly killing him as his body is unable to handle the super-dose of yellow sunlight. Confronted with his own mortality, Superman races to complete 12 impossible tasks before his time on Earth is finally up.

This story is considered by many to be one of the very best Superman stories of all time. It serves as an excellent introduction to the character if you’ve never read (or liked) Superman before, and expresses a deep love for the character (particularly his Silver-Age incarnation) that long-time fans will appreciate.

In our recommendation section, our hosts nominated Earth One, Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E., and Hellheim for discussion on the next episode, and our selected title is Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E.

Our hosts for this episode were Andrew Chard, Tobiah Panshin, Brant Eddy, and Cade Reynolds.
