This week on View from the Gutters, our topic work is Jim Henson’s Tale of Sand. Adapted from a screenplay written by Jim Henson and Jerry Juhl in the late 1960s—and only discovered after Henson’s death—The Tale of Sand is strange, unpredictable, and imaginative.
Brought to life by the masterful artwork of Ramon Perez, The Tale of Sand is one of the more enigmatic works we’ve discussed on View from the Gutters thus far, and it’s likely a work that will bear repeat examination. It follows the adventures of a scruffy everyman as he is set on a perilous journey across an unknown desert, possibly somewhere in the American Southwest, where he is set upon by danger from all sides.
In our recommendation section our hosts nominated Superman/Batman: Supergirl, Nextwave, Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser, and The Influence Machine for discussion on the next episode, and our selected title is Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser.
Our hosts for this episode were Andrew Chard, Joe Preti, Tobiah Panshin, and Cade Reynolds.
