frank

This week on??View from the Gutters??our topic work is The Frank Book, by Jim Woodring. First published in the mid-90s, Frank??is akin to a Merry Melody on acid. It is told in wordless form, and features the (mis)adventures of Frank,??a generic anthropomorph who occupies a reality called the Unifactor.

Frank is by far the weirdest comic we’ve tackled to date, and we have a very lively discussion about it! It’s a strange, surreal, absurd comic that’s certain to make you feel ways about stuff. It’s far better perceived that described, so go and check it out for yourself if you haven’t already.

In our recommendation section, our hosts nominated Defenders: Indefensible, Madman, Noble Causes, Dr. Strange: The Oath, and Saga, Vol. 1-3 for discussion on the next episode, and our selected title is Saga, Vol. 1-3.

Our hosts for this episode were Andrew Chard, Joe Preti, Kirby Green, Tobiah Panshin, and Cade Reynolds.

Cade’s Corner

Sometimes life sucks. Sometimes we all have depressing moments. Sometimes things seem as though they can’t get any worse. Sometimes you need some ???outside??? force to make things better.

Outside in this context is in air quotes, (or literal quotation marks in this case) because I wanted to talk about something that all of us have inside that can make things better. And I’m not talking about Faith (though if you are one who believes, do not allow me to sway you away from those beliefs). I am talking about Inner Strength. I am talking about the ability we all have to make things better than they are. I am talking about real change, and about being heroes to our own lives. Continue Reading

privateeye

This week on??View from the Gutters??our topic work is??The Private Eye, by??Marcos Martin, Brian K. Vaughan, and??Muntsa Vicente. Set in a privacy obsessed future 40-some years after an event known as “the cloud burst”,??The Private Eye is a weird an colorful detective story.

In this world the internet has been abandoned and forgotten, and privacy has become so de rigueur that no one leaves the house without a disguise on.??It follows paparazzo-for-hire P.I., who is hired to do a background check the client themself, and???as one so often does???soon finds himself at the center of a murder-mystery dodging thugs and evading the police press.

The Private Eye is published as a digital exclusive, and is????available on a ???Pay What You Want??? basis (including free) at??https://panelsyndicate.com/.

In our recommendation section, our hosts nominated Dr. Strange Vs. Dracula: The Montesi Formula, Hard Time,??The Immortal Iron Fist, and Okko for discussion on the next episode, and our selected title is The Frank Book.

Our hosts for this episode were Andrew Chard, Joe Preti, Eric Manix, Tobiah Panshin, and Cade Reynolds.
