lazarus

This week on View from the Gutters our topic work is??Lazarus, by Greg Rucka,??Santiago Arcas, and Michael Lark. Set in a dystopian future in which the Earth is ruled by corporate families who via for control while exploiting the “waste”, the unwashed masses who are neither family nor those lucky enough to have curried a family’s favor.

Each family has one Lazarus: a nigh-unkillable super-soldier/bodyguard who is tasked with protecting the family and promoting??their interests. The series follows Forever Carlyle, the Lazarus of the Carlyle family, as she deals with family infighting, assassination attempts, and the ever-present threat of war with the other families.

For our Giant-Sized All-New View from the Gutters #100??we are doing a special 2-part episode.??In part 1 we will discuss Watchmen. In part 2 we will discuss the movie adaptation of Watchmen. The book selected in this episode will be the reading for episode 101.

In our recommendation section, our hosts nominated Atomic Robo, Flashpoint, She-Hulk, Wolverine: Origin, and The Bounce for discussion on the next episode, and our selected title is Flashpoint.

Our hosts for this episode are Andrew Chard, Tobiah Panshin, Kayleigh Fleeman, Brant Gillihan-Eddy, and Cade Reynolds.

shutter

This week on View from the Gutters our topic work is??Shutter, by??Joe Keatinge and Leila del Duca. It stars Kate Kristopher, a child explorer and adventurer??in a world more fantastic than our own filled with robots, talking animal people, flying saucers, ninja ghosts, and a whole lot more.??The series begins on Kate’s 27th birthday, ten years after her father’s death and her retirement from adventure. She suffers and attempted kidnapping, and discovers that she has siblings who may be trying to kill her.

This is a hard one to explain, so you’re going to just have to take our word and read it! This series is jam packed with snappy writing, amazing and dynamic artwork, an incredible universe to explore, and a story that you ache to know more about.

Our??listener survey is still going on, so if you have not already filled it out you can do so right now and receive a small??thank you from View from the Gutters.

sfp2

This week on View from the Gutters our topic work is Strong Female Protagonist, by Brennen Lee Mulligan and Molly Ostertag.??SFP follows the life of retired teen-superhero and now college student Allison Green. As Mega Girl, Allison was one of the first and most powerful superheroes in the world. After years of battling villains, she determined that she wasn’t really making a difference, and so retired in order to figure out how someone with superpowers could truly make the world a better place.

SFP is both a deep character study and an exploration of both the strengths and limitations of superheroes and superpowers, absent the genre protection typically found in supers comics. You can read it for free at strongfemaleprotagonist.com.

Our??listener survey is still going on, so if you have not already filled it out you can do so right now and receive a small??thank you from View from the Gutters.

In our recommendation section, our hosts nominated Cerebus, Fray, Moon Knight, and Shutter for discussion on the next episode, and our selected title is Shutter, Vol. 1.

Set in a familiar yet different world from our own,??Sovereign??follows several groups of characters as the time of convergence approaches, when demons inhabit the bodies of the dead and the world is prophesied to undergo a great change.

Often compared (favorably) to??A??Game of Thrones, this series is a fascinating story that blends fantasy with history and will surely tickle the fancy of any fans of the fantasy genre.
