This series, beginning in 2002, finds Selina Kyle on the slow path to redemption. She teams up with characters from her past, including the infamous Slam Bradley, to protect Gotham’s violent East End, encountering both villains familiar to fans of the Batman books and faces from Selina’s past.

In our recommendation section our hosts nominated Miami Vice: Remix, Autumn Lands, Tintin, and??Johnny the Homicidal Maniac for discussion on our next episode, and our selected title is??Johnny the Homicidal Maniac.

Our hosts for this episode are Andrew Chard, Tobiah Panshin, Kayleigh Fleeman, and Kit Deforge.

blackzatanna

This week on View from the Gutters our topic work is??Black Canary and Zatanna: Bloodspell, a 2014 original graphic novel by Paul Dini and Joe Quinones. The book, which takes place outside of the current New-52 continuity, features the two be-fishnetted heroines investigating a series of murders which surround a retired gang of thieves who Black Canary once befriended.??It also explores the friendship between the two characters, from their unlikely first meeting, to joining the Justice League, and through to the modern day.

This is a great story, ideal for younger readers who are interested in the DC universe.

In our recommendation section our hosts nominated Catwoman, Formerly Known as the Justice League, Secret Identities, The Mask, Lady Killer, and Jem and the Holograms for discussion on our next episode, and our selected title is Catwoman, Vol. 1:??Trail of the Catwoman, and Vol. 2:??No Easy Way Down, by Ed Brubaker and Darwyn Cooke.

Our hosts for this episode are Andrew Chard, Tobiah Panshin, Brant Gillihan-Eddy, Kayleigh Fleeman, Kit Deforge, and Cade Reynolds.

JOURNEY

This week on View from the Gutters our topic work is??Journey into Mystery: Fear Itself, Vol. 1 & 2, by Kieron Gillen, Dougie Braithwaite, and other illustrators. Following the events in Marvel’s Siege event, Loki the trickster god is dead! Long live Loki the trickster god!

Loki, having been reborn as a brand new person who is also a young boy, is greatly distrusted by all in Asgard except for his brother, Thor. However, Loki is given the opportunity to prove himself to valuable to the Aesir when Odin’s evil brother Cul, known as The Serpent, escapes from??his prison deep beneath the sea and attacks the Earth.

Can Loki lie enough to save Asgard? Can he trick the devil himself, Mephisto, into helping him do it? And can he convince the Aesir (and himself) that he isn’t the same old Loki? This is the beginning of a great arc that redefines Loki.

In our recommendation section our hosts nominated Wonton Soup, The Nao of Brown, Bitch Planet, Black Canary and Zatanna: Bloodspell, and Suiciders??for discussion on our next episode, and our selected title is Black Canary and Zatanna: Bloodspell.

Our hosts for this episode are Andrew Chard, Tobiah Panshin, Kayleigh Fleeman, and Kit Deforge.
