This week on View from the Gutters our topic work is Hip Hop Family Tree, Vol. 1-3, by Ed Piskor. Produced in an old-school half-tone style, the series examines the history and evolution of hip hop from its roots in 1970s Brooklyn into the 1980s and ever greater public consciousness.

In our recommendation section our hosts nominated Gunnerkrigg Court, Old Man Logan, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Friends with Boys, The Rabbi’s Cat, and Battling Boy for discussion on our next episode, and our selected title is The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl.

Our hosts for this episode are Andrew Chard, Tobiah Panshin, Joe Preti, Kayleigh Fleeman, and podcast coach Kenny Wisdom, host of On the Bubble.

This week on View from the Gutters our topic work is The Frank Book, by Jim Woodring. First published in the mid-90s, Frank is akin to a Merry Melody on acid. It is told in wordless form, and features the (mis)adventures of Frank, a generic anthropomorph who occupies a reality called the Unifactor.

Frank is by far the weirdest comic we’ve tackled to date, and we have a very lively discussion about it! It’s a strange, surreal, absurd comic that’s certain to make you feel ways about stuff. It’s far better perceived that described, so go and check it out for yourself if you haven’t already.

In our recommendation section, our hosts nominated Defenders: Indefensible, Madman, Noble Causes, Dr. Strange: The Oath, and Saga, Vol. 1-3 for discussion on the next episode, and our selected title is Saga, Vol. 1-3.

Our hosts for this episode were Andrew Chard, Joe Preti, Kirby Green, Tobiah Panshin, and Cade Reynolds.
